Hello, from the Transportation Department!

Menahga Public Schools maintains a complete line of buses and provides transportation for its students.

Bus Driver Training

A school bus and van driver has the privilege of transporting our future. To become a driver for our school, candidates must be at least 21 years of age and have a clean driving record.

Candidates interested in driving a school bus will need to have or obtain a class A or B CDL license with School Bus and Passenger endorsements. Bus Driver training is provided in-house to help drivers obtain the required licensing.

Contact the Transportation Supervisor for additional details. All drivers are required to receive annual trainings and evaluations and are subject to random drug and alcohol testing which are handled by a third party consortium.

Bus Safety Training

Per Minnesota Statutes regarding school bus safety training (MS 123B.90), students from Head Start through 10th grade are trained annually on bus safety by the 2nd week of school. Elementary students E-4 receive the training twice per school year – once at the beginning of the school year and a second time in January after winter break. The training is age appropriate but must encompass the following concepts:

  • Transportation by school bus is a privilege and not a right
  • District policies for student conduct and school bus safety
  • Appropriate conduct while on the school bus
  • The danger zones surrounding a school bus
  • Procedures for safety boarding and leaving a school bus
  • Procedures for safe street or road crossing
  • School bus evacuation

Who can ride the bus home?

Students are allowed to only ride the buses they are assigned to with the following exceptions:

  • Child care
  • Extra-curricular activities as part of the current bus route

Playdates, hanging out with friends and birthday parties do not fall into these categories.
