From the Desk of Mark Frank, High School Principal
I’m excited to welcome everyone back to Menahga High School (MHS). I hope this letter finds you and your family safe and healthy. The coronavirus has impacted us all in different ways and has presented obstacles in educational programming. Our school and district continues to face unique challenges as we collectively navigate through this situation. We are eager to have students back in our classrooms and hallways; filling them with energy and enthusiasm for learning. At MHS, we take great pride in offering relevant course studies and cultivating positive student relationships on a daily basis. The collaborative work among the staff, students, parents, and community members create an imperative and valuable contribution to the rigorous education for the students at MHS.
A comprehensive curriculum with over 70 different electives to choose from will continue to be available, as well as extensive concurrent college programs with 10 college courses offered totaling 34 college credits through U of M Crookston and CLC. These programs offer students the opportunity to take college-level courses while remaining in the MHS building. Not to mention the countless hands-on CTE courses in Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Woods, Metals, Welding, Small Engines, Agriculture, Art, and Family/Consumer Science.
Menahga High School also offers over 33 athletic, fine arts, and leadership programs for students to participate in. It is our goal to look for ways to provide opportunities for all students to be successful in an inviting school environment.
Following lunch, students will have a 20 minute homeroom period. The homeroom teacher will help monitor grades and missing work, build a community of learners and be that go-to person that kids can turn to for resources. Homeroom time will be used as a structured study hall, along with an intentional meeting time between student and teacher to build relationships and foster learning.
MHS takes great pride in our school culture and works to keep it welcoming and inclusive to all. We want students to thrive intellectually, academically and socially. This communication is vital in helping each child find and develop his or her commitment to being a lifelong learner. As we add programs to enhance learning opportunities, we will continue to build upon the strong foundation throughout our curricular, extra-curricular programs, implementation of Positive Behavior Intervention Systems known as PBIS, and Infinite Campus as our student management system/parent portal.
We have a few new faces, please join me in welcoming these new staff members to our community. Toby Weston in Industrial Tech., and Jerry Snow in Biology/Science and Ed Heltunen in Business Education.
The 2020-21 school year will be a busy and exciting year at MHS as we chart a course that honors the past and envision the future. It's our remarkable staff, involved parents and committed students coming together that make MHS a wonderful and unique place.
I am looking forward to working with you and your student(s) as we work towards an academically successful school year. If you ever have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.
